Through the Garden Gate
Inspired by Island author Terry Hershey's book Soul Gardening, VAA New Works Series recipients Patricia Kelly and Pat Churchill will stage their co-produced/co-directed performance Through the Garden Gate at Vashon Allied Arts. To accommodate performance elements and seating, gallery walls will be moved back for a theatre in the round setting.
The multi-media event will weave several story lines together and showcase talents of more than 20 Island performers including: Gordon Millar; Patricia Kelly; Ellie Hughes; Gaye Detzer; Kirk Beeler; Tom Pruiksma; Terry Hershey; Tami Brockway Joyce; Jennifer Sutherland; Abby Enson; and VAA dancers. Musicians will include: Christopher Overstreet; Jason Staczek; Nova Karina Devonie; Barry Cooper; and Gaye Detzer.
Entering through a 'gate' constructed by Gordon Millar from gnarled ivy vines found along Vashon shores, Kelly and Churchill create atmosphere with lighting and nature sounds. The north wall, adorned with colorful hand-dyed, floral inspired panels, unfurl with changing seasons.
Expect magic, extraordinary movement, literary readings, poignant moments, raucous humor and live music. Garden Gate is a celebration of all things Vashon and all things garden!
