Farm Food Fork Conference - A Growing Economy
North Kootenay Lake Community Services presents the 2016 Farm Food Fork conference in partnership with the West Kootenay Permaculture Co-op.
This regional gathering will bring together farmers and value-added food producers from across the Kootenays for two days of great speakers, in-depth workshops, and panel presentations by successful food entrepreneurs (that's farmers and value-added food producers from our region and beyond).
The conference focus is business skills and economic viability we want you to take home practical lessons and an action plan that guides you on the way to making your food-based businesses and farms financially successful. Presentations will address how to accomplish that through both personal initiative and collaborative action, and how to make use of existing and emerging supports in our region. Strong and thriving local food systems need strong and thriving farms and food businesses. Are you ready to thrive? Then this is the conference for you! Come out, participate, and go home inspired and re-energized. Spring is just around the corner.
Who should come? Farmers and value-added food producers, anyone involved in the local food economy, or those interested in exploring the opportunity to build a livelihood in the local food economy. In fact, anyone who wants to play a role, direct or supportive, in ensuring a vibrant Kootenay food economy. Join us.
Friday, March 18th Pre-conference screening of a film at the Langham Cultural Centre, 7pm. Admission included with conference ticket, or can be purchased at the door for $5.
Saturday, March 19th we'll gather in Kaslo for a day of keynote presentations, speakers, panel discussions, and information sharing, as well as the Kootenay Food Economy Tradeshow. Lunch and dinner are provided, with a community square dance to finish off the evening.
Sunday, March 20th we'll meet in Meadow Creek (Lardeau Valley Community Hall) for our Business Boot Camp, where farmers and food entrepreneurs will take part in a day-long, guided business planning session in which they'll identify or clarify their businesses mission, objectives, goals and action plans. This will be a serious, but fun and mutually supportive exercise to ensure participants leave the day with strong direction for their businesses, a clear action plan, and a support process to help them stay accountable to themselves in the following year. We mean business, we're here to help all of us be successful!
