... "We love you.....Pisendel?"
Sometimes you can judge someone by the company he keeps. We might not often hear the music of Johann Georg Pisendel today, but the Dresden composer and orchestra leader was a colleague and friend to a galaxy of talent in Eighteenth-Century Germany, including J.S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Phillip Telemann, Jan Dismas Zelenka, Johann Gottlieb Graun... you get the idea. Join Rezonance for a concert of some of the finest music of the Baroque, all dedicated to a man who was one of the greatest musicians of his day.
The program will include works by Telemann, Vivaldi, the mysterious Pisendel himself and more!
Rezonance Baroque Ensemble is a new tour de force in the Toronto early music scene. Led by Rezan Onen-Lapointe and David Podgorski, Rezonance is known for bringing exciting performances of unusual music to audiences in innovative ways.
Rezan Onen-Lapointe is a violinist specializing in historical performance, which she studied at both McGill University and the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague (Netherlands), as well as various professional workshops. Since then Rezan has returned to Toronto and is in demand as a freelance Baroque violinist and violist. She has played regularly with Aradia Ensemble, with whom she has recorded two albums for Naxos and traveled to Newfoundland, Italy, and Halifax. She has also performed with Nota Bene Baroque Ensemble, Talisker Players, Musicians in Ordinary, Elixir Baroque Ensemble, and more. She has served as both concertmaster and principal violist for Les Vents Atlantiques, a conductorless Romantic period orchestra, in the Netherlands and Mexico.
David Podgorski is an accomplished chamber musician and solo harpsichordist. After completing a BMus at McGill University under the pianist Tom Plaunt, David studied harpsichord with Hank Knox, obtaining a MMus in harpsichord performance in 2005. In Montreal, David had the opportunity to work with many exceptional musicians, including Hélène Plouffe, David Greenberg, Matthias Maute, and Luc Beauséjour. Recently, David pursued advanced studies in the Netherlands, at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, with Jacques Ogg, and completed a demo recording in Italy of the solo harpsichord works of d'Anglebert. David continues to perform regularly, and has performed in solo, chamber, and orchestral concerts in Boston, Montreal, Toronto, and San Francisco as well as in Italy, France, and the Netherlands.
