Bio for Patrick Nelson, Food & Farm Event Chef, Brown Paper Tickets

"I have been cooking since I was old enough to pull a chair up to the counter in grandmas kitchen," said Nelson, who created a 15-year culinary career by working his way up from dishwasher to executive chef. In addition to his role at Brown Paper Tickets, Nelson works his home farm, and serves on the "Focus on Farming" planning committee for Snohomish County, Washington.

As the world's only Not-Just-For-Profit event registration company, Brown Paper Tickets donates Nelson's services as a guest chef, teaching cooking classes for El Centro de la Raza. Nelson offers a workshop to train neighbors of El Centro de la Raza on how to teach their family recipes and traditions as a means of fundraising. The result was an expanded curriculum of classes, constituting a kind of "volunteer cooking school," for all kinds of popular Latin American dishes, raising more than $50,000 for bilingual human and community services.

"This program takes excellent volunteer cooks from the community and turns them into teachers. If you weren't lucky enough to have a grandmother who could teach you all of these great recipes, now you have El Centro de la Raza," Nelson says.

Want to become a volunteer guest chef, teaching your favorite family recipes as a means of raising funds for the El Centro de la Raza's bilingual human services? Check out Patrick's blog post on Cooking Class Success: http://community.brownpapertickets.com/wp/, or email Patrick@BrownPaperTickets.com, and ask for his "volunteer cooking school" workshop!
