William Bartram's Travels, Behind the Scenes
Cold Mountain's W.P. Inman makes extensive use of his ragged copy of Travels, originally published in 1791 by Philadelphia's William Bartram. A botanist and talented illustrator, William Bartram explored Cherokee Country in 1773 and 1776 in search of unfamiliar and interesting plants. Foremost Bartram historian Joel Fry provides the fascinating backstory of William's influential and idiosyncratic travel memoir. Following the lecture, we'll go on a special tour of the Bartram home, featuring the study where William wrote Travels.
