Zen Meditation: Ancient Practice in a Modern World
The Contemplative Studies Initiative and the Office of the Chaplains and Religious Life at Brown University is pleased to bring renowned professor, writer and Zen teacher, David Loy to Brown's campus to lead an introduction to Zen Buddhism workshop. In addition to Sunday's retreat, David will be presenting the Interlandi Memorial Lecture, "Healing Ecology: A Buddhist Perspective on the Eco-Crisis," on Monday, April 16 at 6pm in Salomon 001. The Monday night event is free and open to the public.
David Loy is a Zen teacher in the Sanbo Kyodan tradition of Japanese Zen Buddhism. He is a prolific author, whose essays and books have been translated into many languages. His articles appear regularly in the pages of major journals such as Tikkun and Buddhist magazines including Tricycle, Turning Wheel, Shambhala Sun and Buddhadharma, as well as in a variety of scholarly journals. Loy is a professor of Buddhist and comparative philosophy. His BA is from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and he studied analytic philosophy at King's College, University of London. His MA is from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and his PhD is from the National University of Singapore.
