EatDrinkFilms and  Food Day  present a day of food-themed movies in San Francisco as part of the national FoodDay on Saturday, October 24.

Four feature length movies -- three San Francisco Premieres and a food classic-- will screen at the Roxie Theatre. The day will start with a free program of short films at the Exploratorium.

Each feature at the Roxie will be preceded by tastings from local food and/or beverage producers and a short film.

In Defense of Food
"What should I eat to be healthy?"
Cutting through confusion and busting myths and misconceptions, Michael Pollan shows how common sense and old-fashioned wisdom can help us rediscover the pleasures of eating and avoid the chronic ills so often associated with our modern diet. "Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants."
Based on Pollan's best-selling book from the director of The Botany of Desire.
Director Michael Schwarz in person.

The Ways of Wine
A famous sommelier, Charlie Arturaola, arrives at the glamorous "Masters of Food and Wine" in Argentina. After having "traveled the world on a wine bottle," something unusual happens: he loses his palate. In order to recover it, the most important people of the wine world think he has to "wash" his palate with the best wines of the region.

A French housekeeper (St├ęphane Audran) with a mysterious past brings a quiet revolution to a little Scandinavian fishing village toward the end of the nineteenth century, in the form of an exquisite French meal  ---  from Potage a'la Tortue (Turtle Soup) to Caille en Sarcophage avec Sauce Perigourdine (Quail in Puff Pastry Shell with Foie Gras and Truffle Sauce), sparkling Veuve Clicquot and the finale -- Baba au Rhum avec les Figues (Rum Cake with Dried Figs). Gabriel Axel's Oscar-winning film, adapted from an Isak Dinesen story, is the ultimate film for food lovers.
Introduced by Gayle Pirie and John Clark of the Foreign Cinema restaurant.                  1:15pm -Roxie
