3rd Annual Experimental Cultivar Workshop - 3/26
For the third vintage in a planned seven-year study to find new grape cultivars that thrive in Missouri AND make excellent wine, the ICCVE will again conduct its spring workshop during which you will blindly sample 16 wines (the whites compared to a "control" Chardonel, and the reds compared to a "control" Chambourcin.
In addition, this year you will also sample wines produced by two different research studies: one study focuses on the different wine-quality aspects of seven wines produced from Chardonel grapes grown on different rootstocks. The other study examines the resulting wine of Chambourcin grapes grown under five different viticultural practices. By event's end, you will have sampled over 30 different wines.
Even if you are already committed to your grape cultivars(and have no plans of increasing acreage and/or changing grape varieties), we encourage attendance for you to practice critical wine sampling skills whether to describe positive aspects/personal preferences of the wines, or to hone wine fault detection skills.
This year we will hold two events at different times on two different days. We hope by doing so, we will increase attendance. Wednesday, March 21, 2012, beginning at 5:00 PM; or Monday, March 26, 2012, beginning at 10:30 AM.
Both sessions will be held in Stringer 145, just across from the Café, and down the corridor from the ICCVE's offices.
Parking will be both free and easy: there is no restricted parking after 5:00 PM; and the Monday event falls during spring break.
We will serve a simple meal, e.g. pizza and salad during the event.
Registration fee is $20.
