Darwin Day 2016 - 12:30 PM, Saturday, Feb.6, 2016
We will have two distinguished speakers at this years event.

Dr. Frans DeWaal
He is the author of "The Bonobo and the Atheist" and many other books and articles. According to his Facebook page "My passion is primate behavior, and the comparison between primate and human behavior. I pursue the first as a scientist and the second as a writer of popular books. For me, there is nothing more logical than to look at human society through the lens of animal behavior."

He has a Ph.D. in zoology and ethology (the study of animal behavior) from the University of Utrecht, and teaches Psychology at Emory University, in Atlanta. He is also a Distinguished Professor at the University of Utrecht. He is a Member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.  He was named by Time magazine as one of the world's most influential people in 2008.

Dr. Deby Cassill
In 1996, at the youthful age of 49, Dr. Cassill received her PhD in biology from the Florida State University. For the next five years, she continued her research at the University of Arizona and Texas A&M University. In 2001, she was hired as an assistant professor at the USF St. Petersburg. Dr. Cassill uses ants as a surrogate for the evolution of behavior. She has characterized ant behaviors during floods, famine, earth quakes, destruction of homes and territorial battles. As she says, "Ant battles are deliciously gory; especially when the matriarchal queen turns on a chemical signal that causes her sterile daughters to execute her fertile sons and daughters! Royal heads roll!" She has well over 50 publications in premier science journals in biology and economics and is currently working on a book titled, Survival of the Misfits.

Each will give a lecture on their topic and then there will be a panel discussion, with questions from the audience.

Afterwards there will be a reception, with light refreshments, during which attendees can interact with the speakers and each other.
