James Howard Kunstler lecture
"The Long Emergency"
Author of The Geography of Nowhere (1993), Kunstler's most recent book, The Long Emergency (2005), is a sobering account of the effects of the end of oil. He makes a strong case that there is no other energy source on the horizon to take its place. Kunstler envisions a "low energy" world that will be radically different from today's society.
Kunstler has been an outspoken critic of suburbia, urban development trends throughout the US, and the ̢̮ÃâÃâ¬ÃâÃÅAmerican Way of Life̢̮ÃâÃâ¬ÃâÃÂ, and has been a leading proponent of The New Urbanism movement.
James Howard Kunstler was born in New York City in 1948. He moved to the Long Island suburbs in 1954 and returned to the city in 1957 where he spent most of his childhood. He graduated from the State University of New York, Brockport campus, worked as a reporter and feature writer for a number of newspapers, and finally as a staff writer for Rolling Stone Magazine. In 1975, he dropped out to write books on a full-time basis. He has no formal training in architecture or the related design fields.
