MORE ABOUT THE FEATURE:

Write A House welcomes nationally acclaimed writer Matt Bell, author of the novel "In the House Upon the Dirt Between the Lake and the Woods", a finalist for the Young Lions Fiction Award, a Michigan Notable Book, and an Indies Choice Adult Debut Book of the Year Honor Recipient, as well as the winner of the Paula Anderson Book Award. His stories have appeared in Best American Mystery Stories, Conjunctions, Gulf Coast, The American Reader, and many other publications. Born in Michigan, he now teaches creative writing at Arizona State University.

At this extraordinary event, Matt Bell will be showcasing his latest book."Scrapper" is a devastating reimagining of one of America's greatest cities: its beautiful architecture, lost houses, shuttered factories, boxing gyms, and storefront churches. With precise, powerful prose, it asks: What do we owe for our crimes, even those we've committed to protect the people we love?

MORE ABOUT THE WRITE A HOUSE:

Our mission is simple: to leverage Detroit's available housing in creative ways to bolster an emerging literary community to benefit the City of Detroit and its neighborhoods. We enliven the literary arts of Detroit by renovating homes and giving them to authors, journalists, poets, aka writers. It's like a writer-in-residence program, only in this case we're actually giving the writer the residence... forever.

It will be theirs to keep. We received applications from writers around the country (and world), and on October 2nd, we are excited to welcome second winner of this revolutionary program. They will be there in person, and interviewed by our featured reader Matt Bell.

WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

AFTER-PARTY

There will be one to offer a loose, but engaging community welcome to our newest homeowner to the Detroit artistic family. Need we say more?

There will be a shuttle provided by Show Me Detroit Tours available every 10 minutes from 6-7pm, and again after the show concludes (if you choose not to stay for the after-party)
