Debris From Our Youthful Years
Debris from Our Youthful Years blends live music from Snowman Plan with three dance pieces that examine the acute vulnerability of the human condition. "The Conflict Between Us" explores culture and how it can be affected by rebellion and constant brutality against its own people. "Caught in the Act of Self-Loathing" sees one dancer progress from buffoonery to his worst nightmare as a result of the destructive force of perfectionism. "The Youngest Child" features characters who leave painted marks on one another as they experience moments of sudden understanding of their pasts as hidden memories resurface. Together, these pieces expose numerous political and social crises currently faced by young Americans.
Snowman Plan was founded by bassist/composer Ian Obermuller in 2001 as a computer-based solo recording project to make creative new music that would blend real instruments with electronic sounds and conjure up dreamlike worlds and surreal creatures in the mind of the listener. It was in creating Snowman Plan's first album that brought Ian into collaboration with long-time friend Eric Miller, who contributed his drumming skills to a few of the songs. Since then, they have continued to play at many venues all over the city, and hope to release a new album sometime in the near future. The last evening of the run, Saturday October 1, will be our second annual fundraising shindig. The $25 ticket ($20 in advance) includes admission to a post-show reception with food, drink, a raffle, and special entertainment by award-winning musician/humorist 'Great Guy.'
