This nonet (six horns plus piano, bass, and drums) is the showboat forBaltimore bass clarinetist Marcus considerable composer chops. This jazz is straight-ahead, with a fondness for deliciously swinging tempos and luxurious brass and reeds interaction, but spiced with a good deal of contemporary rhythmic pepper and melodic variance.
