Dvořák's Stabat Mater Saturday October 17 at 7:30pm Sunday October 18 at 4pm Newmark Theater
Oregon Repertory Singers begins its 42nd Season with two performances of one of the great monuments of choral music: Antonin Dvořák's haunting oratorio Stabat Mater for chorus and full orchestra is one of the most beautiful pieces ever to have come out of Eastern Europe. ORS continues its commitment to performing classics rarely heard in Portland in collaboration with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. This is the piece that launched the career of one of the greatest composers of all timecatch it while you can.

Glory of Christmas Sundays, December 6 & 13 at 4pm Friday, December 11 at 7:30pm First United Methodist Church
We continue our season with the 42nd edition of The Glory of Christmas. This concert has something for everyone, from great sacred music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, Benjamin Britten and Franz Biebl, to stunning and lush new settings of traditional carols by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo and Seattle composer Eric Banks, and even John Williams' Christmas music from the blockbuster movie Home Alone.
Critical Mass: Vaughan Williams & Martin Saturday April 23 at 2pm Sunday April 24 at 4pm First United Methodist Church
Our season concludes with Critical Mass, a concert featuring two of the most important compositions for a cappella choir from the early twentieth century. Both are settings of the traditional Latin mass for double choir written after the end of World War I and foreshadowing what was to come. The first, Mass in G Minor, was written in 1921 by the great English romantic Ralph Vaughan Williams, whose vocal writing remains among the most lush and indulgent from this difficult time in British history. The other is by the Swiss composer Frank Martin, whose Mass for Double Chorus from 1922 offers a unique Swiss perspective on life and religion between the two World Wars. It is as if a Renaissance Mass were lost in time, aware of both its musical history, and beauty, and of the horrors unfolding.
