The Haverhill Girls House Concert Series: An Evening with Amy Kucharik
The Haverhill Girls House Concert Series Presents: An Evening with Amy Kucharik
This is a Songwriters Series brought to you by the folks at MAMA BEAR BOOKING
ABOUT OUR FEATURED SONGWRITER:
2015 Kerrville Grassy Hill New Folk winner Amy Kucharik applies the sweet, innocent tones of her ukulele to the (sometimes) dark humor of her wit with an infectious, danceable swing. Amy released her debut full-length CD in 2014, with tunes inspired by vintage jazz/blues in the vein of the Asylum Street Spankers, with sassy lyrics reminiscent of the Lake Street Dive or early blueswomen like Sippie Wallace, and vocals that recall Lena Horne or Maria Muldaur. She has shared bills with Denver, CO-based YouTube ukulele sensation Danielle Ate the Sandwich, as well as Samantha Farrell, Boston Music Award Folk Artist of the Year 2014 Dan Blakeslee, and troubadour Greg Klyma. She has performed in New England, Montreal, and throughout the southern and midwestern U.S. Amy's band, Friends (With Benefits), features a revolving assortment of talented musicians. Her 2013 EP, Dance Crush Blues, is available on Bandcamp.com. Her full-length album, "Cunning Folk, contains 10 of Amy's originals arranged for a diversely instrumented band featuring luscious vocal harmonies and swirling New Orleans brass. At the crossroads of ragtime blues and neo-folk, these catchy, sexy, sometimes haunting songs recount tales of reluctant love, heartbreak, revenge, and grit. "Cunning Folk" was a nominee for Red Line Roots 2014 Album of the Year. She has taught beginning and intermediate ukulele classes at CCAE as well as various workshop sessions, and is available for private lessons. Amy and her band are based in Somerville, MA.
The HAVERHILL GIRLS HOUSE CONCERT SERIES features live, intimate performances in a simple setting with musicians from all over the USA. Most of the shows will be focusing on female performers from the North Shore area of Massachusetts. AMY HERRERA (musician and the creator of this series) grew up in Haverhill, MA; a city known for music. This setting was her inspiration to set up these popular house concerts. All the ticket sales go directly to the musicians, and food and drinks are included in the purchase price.
Thank you for supporting LIVE MUSIC in New England!
