Willie needs our help.
He has some serious heart issues, I do not want to go into great detail here, but it is very serious. He does not have much time left. He is not able to teach at Webster University this semester which will adversley impact his income.
Our goal is to try and raise enough money to cover that gap for Willie, so he can live out the rest of his life without worrying about money.
Willie wants to play as much as he can while he still can, but he gets very tired and winded just getting to the gig. I talked to him on the phone yesterday (August 24th) and he said "I want to go out playing" I almost started crying...
I have a special place in my heart for Willie, and I know that many of you do as well.
When I was a young college student at Webster University 1986-1990, I used to follow Willie all over town to hear him play. I never thought I would be able to ever perform with him, then many years later on January 15th, 2013 I performed with Willie Akins at the Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries. That show was very pivotal for my personal success.
I had no idea he was this sick when I first booked him for this Sept. 4th date at the Kranzberg... so upon hearing this news of his condition, its seriousness and his loss of income, I decided yesterday to make this a benefit to raise money for Willie.

goal is to raise as much money as we can to cover Willie's expenses in this time of need, so he can concentrate on doing what he needs to do to be comfortable.
