The Current State of Planning: Navigating New Roles and Careers
The planning field is dynamically changing in light of the current economic downturn. Cities around California are dealing with severely constricted budgets and need to think creatively about how to maintain operations in light of the economic shift. Additionally new federal and state mandates are dictating the way planning ought to happen in our communities. Given the challenges, planners must actively think about where new opportunities exist.
In this symposium, hosted by the Urban Planning Coalition and the APA California-Northern Section Young Planners Group, we will address what lies in the future for planning and discuss where planners should now seek opportunities to hone their skills and better position themselves for new and emerging careers in the planning profession. The symposium will feature a series of interactive panel discussions by knowledgeable planning professionals and a small job expo where participants can network with Bay Area planning and design firms. Lunch and refreshments included.
