Rural Energy & Climate Policy Forum
The Rural Energy and Climate Policy Forum is a daylong gathering of leadership from rural local governments and California state government to define strategies to build a strong economy, create jobs, improve public health and move to a clean energy future in rural communities through implementing the goals of AB 32, the Global Warming Solution Act.
Both rural and urban counties marked their hope and determination that clean technology and sustainable energy--not fossil fuels--will drive the Golden State's 21 century economy when close to 6 million people voted last November to defeat Proposition 23, the ballot measure that would have suspended AB 32. "No on 23" got more votes than any other item on the ballot, including the winning candidates for Governor and U.S. Senate.
A wide swath of California voters stood firm for clean air and a clean energy economy, and now communities are looking to AB 32 to meet their expectations. The September 28th Forum will provide local governments an overview from top level State staff on where the State Agencies and the new Governor's Administration stand with regard to developing climate policy, programs, regulations and incentives. The Forum will give State staff the opportunity to hear from local government leaders about the unique circumstances of rural communities and how climate policy and strategies can benefit them. Rural local government participants are anticipated to be elected officials, commissioners, county administrators, city managers, department heads and planners, as well as community stakeholders.
