Nellie a naive Navy nurse falls for Emile, a worldly French planter living on a Pacific island, during wartime.
One of the musical's themes is expressed through the song "You've Got to Be Carefully Taught". This song expresses the racial prejudice Nellie feels when she meets Emile's children who's mother was a native woman. Other familiar songs include: "Some Enchanted Evening", "Bali Ha'i", "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair" and "Bloody Mary".
This production also includes a full orchestra accompaniment.
