The Flesh Hungry Dog Show
On Friday, May 6th, 2011, The Flesh Hungry Dog Show presents "Attack of the Killer Bs" Featuring bands 8 Inch Betsy, Blane Fonda, and Blah Blah Blah, along with special guest performers Vallery Dolls and Titty Perkins.
The mission of The Flesh Hungry Dog Show is to bring live rock and related musical forms to Chicago's gay community, and to provide a fun, alternative venue for bands with GLBT content and members, and bands that are GLBT supportive.
8 Inch Betsy Somewhere between poets and punk rockers, 8 Inch Betsy is three women full of vitriol, lyricism and insight. It's music for those of us who know that feeling between restraint and release, action and reaction. Singer and guitarist Meghan Galbraith's gale force vocals encapsulate all the angst, anger and eventual relief that accompanies catharsis, and Liz Burke's bass and Melissa Thomas's drums play together like a garage thump from years gone by. Demureness gets shoved violently aside as Galbraith, Burke and Thomas collide on The Mean Days (CD) (Spring 2011). This second record from 8 Inch Betsy sees the new line-up epitomize the efficacy that can come from this unexpected dichotomy - a searing, affecting album that masters both lyrical depth and catchiness.
Blane Fonda Blane Fonda formed in early 2009, each member a seasoned representative of the Chicago music scene. Almost immediately after forming, the group headed to IV Lab Studios to record âMOSABAâ with engineer and co-producer Jon Alvin. The EP was well-received by the press, garnering strong reviews by the likes of the Chicago Tribune, which noted Blaneâs âsoaring, stadium-ready chorusesâ. The group also established a reputation for their high-energy live performances, with Performer Magazine saying âThe fivesome is at once energetic, magnetic and overwhelming with its insuperable undertow of synth-driven power pop.â Riding the buzz generated by good reviews and regular radio play, Blane Fonda continued to push forward with a consistent schedule of shows in Chicago at venues such as Schubas, Double Door, Subterranean and Metro, around the Midwest and as far as Austin for multiple showcases at SXSW 2010. The band has since shared the stage with such acts as The Hood Internet, Company of Thieves, AM Taxi and many others.
Blah Blah Blah Hailing from Chicago, Blah Blah Blah is a multi-cultural, socially conscious quartet, who's main goal is to willfully impart positivity and optimism upon their burgeoning and passionate fan-base. Musically, Blah Blah Blah pairs soothing, elegant vocals with a spiral of carefully crafted layers of guitars and keys; all tightly held together by up-tempo drums and soulful bass lines. Championing the fusion of Brit-rock and New Wave, Blah Blah Blah continues to win over the hearts of fans worldwide for their emotionally driven, yet upbeat songs, that playfully strike a balance between the alternative and organic.
