ABOUT THE SOLO PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP:
The Solo Performance Workshop, founded by W. Kamau Bell and Bruce Pachtman in 2005, is an 8-session course designed to support the development of professional level theatrical solo performance (aka, solo show or one-person show). Each participant creates a unique and personal 15-20 minute solo performance piece using a variety of writing and performance techniques. The Workshop culminates with a public performance where each participant's work is showcased.
The Workshop is recommended for performers of all disciplines, including actors, writers, comedians, spoken word artists, musicians and dancers. All levels of experience are welcome, from those who have never been on stage before to those preparing a piece for a professional production or audition. Members of the Workshop have gone on to perform their shows all over the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and New York.
ABOUT MARTHA RYNBERG (facilitator):
MARTHA RYNBERG kinda has it bad for solo performance. Martha is the original director of the W. Kamau Bell Curve as well as the co-director of Zahra Noorbakhsh's, All Atheists are Muslim. She's also directs DIS-ORIENTED: A trio of solo performances by Asian American women and A Widow's To Do List, written and performed by Ericka Lutz. Since 2008 Martha has been teaching The Solo Performance Workshop, supporting folks to create original, dynamic solo performance. She is currently writing a solo piece titled, Lady Parts which explores the dark and hilarious corners of inheritance, parenting and internalized misogyny. Really, it's funny.
