Metro Comedy Presents Stand-Up at Brightwood Bistro
Event Summary: Metro Comedy presents comedy shows at Brightwood Bistro. Metro Comedy founder Ed Blaze, himself a comedian, hosts a lineup of local stand-up stars, the DC area's best new talent and more.
Event Description: Marcus Brown's versatile, educated, and urban style of comedy has caused him to quickly become a fan favorite in the Washington, D.C. area sharing the stage with such famous comedians as Renaldo Rey, Bruce Bruce, Rickey Smiley, Tony Woods, Michael Blackson, JB Smoove, Gary Gulman, Joe Clair, Mike Brooks and Chris Tucker. In 2007 Marcus was the comedic entertainment for DTLR's Corporate Christmas celebration and was a DC Improv 2008 Funniest Comic Finalist. In 2009 Marcus appeared in a Sierra Mist online commercial showcasing his comedic talent, and was a Finalist in the Big Easy DC Regional Comedy Festival as well as the Kaleidescope Comedy "So You Think You're Funny" Annual Comedy Contest in 2010.
Niem Lyon has been performing stand-up since 2006. A regular at venues across the East Coast, he's also auditioned for Def Comedy Jam.
After a year in stand-up comedy, Mariya Alexander performs all over DC, MD and VA, and has even traveled as far as Boston to ply her trade. She has recently been accepted to participate in the prestigious Women In Comedy Festival this March. She hosts a comedy podcast, The Mariya Alexander Show, which can be found on iTunes. Mariya lives in Potomac, MD with her sister and a friend, two dogs, and two cats. In short, if stand-up doesn't work out, her life is ripe for its own reality TV show on one of the trashier channels.
Terry Hawkins graduated from Paint Branch High School in Burtonsville, MD., and joined the USMC in 1997. As an actor, he has been cast as an extra on HBO's hit series The Wire, Disney's Step Up 2 and several B-movies. He's also been seen in multiple local theater productions.
