OPUS AFFAIR PRESENTS OLAFUR ARNALDS
...and they have escaped the weight of darkness
Monday, January 24, 2010 at 8pm, Suffolk University's The Modern Theatre
Recently named one of "The Ten Best New Solo Artists of 2010" by PASTE Magazine, 23-year-old Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds returns to Boston on Monday, January 24, 2010, in a multi-media designed concert featuring repertoire from his second full-length album ...and they have escaped the weight of darkness. Continuing his mission to lure an indie rock generation of music fans into an emotive world of beguiling electronic chamber music and delicate classical arrangements, his highly acclaimed album is an organic crossover.
His U.S. Tour begins in Boston on January 24 and continues with several stops across the country, including New York (Highline Ballroom), Chicago (MCA), San Francisco (Great American Music Hall) and Los Angeles (Echoplex). The musicians (Olafur on electronics/keyboard plus a string quartet) perform amongst special neon lights and projections programmed and controlled on-stage by MIDI.
Olafur's visibility began in 2007-2008 when he made his debut at a sold-out Barbican Hall in London and toured with fellow Icelanders Sigur Ros. In 2009, he wrote Dyad 1909, the score for award-winning choreographer Wayne McGregor, and Found Songs, a collection of pieces each written, recorded and released in a single day. Downloads of these songs, as well as streams of his video "Ljósið," have generated over 600,000 clicks to date.
