SCMS Presents the Baroque Festival - Orchestral Music at the Dresden Court
For most of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Dresden was a hot-spot of creativity and a favorite destination of the era's greatest composers. The music of the era's greatest composers filled the chambers of the Dresden Court. Honoring the memory of those glory days, the St. Cecilia Baroque Festival Orchestra presents works by the composers from the last great era of music-making in Dresden under the rule of Frederick the Great. The concert features Jan Dismas Zelenka's Laudate Pueri for tenor and trumpet, and Ave Deus for soprano and chalumeau. Additional works by Zelenka, Heinichen, and Vivaldi. Special guests include Jenifer Thyssen, soprano, David Stevens, tenor, Nathaniel Mayfield, Baroque trumpet, and Owen Watkins, chalumeau.
