Conchords Chorale presents "Festive Favorites!"
Conchords Chorale, directed by Don Anderson, presents "Festive Favorites." Hear a spectrum of holiday music from sacred to secular, featuring songs such as "O Come O Come Emmanuel," "The 12 Days After Christmas, and a touching arrangement of "Silent Night." The chorale will also present the Christmas favorite that always warms the heart; "Little Drummer Boy." A terrific new arrangement of "Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town," by Director, Don Anderson and multi-talented Conchord member John DeRuntz, is also included in the evening's performance. "Ava Maria" features a glorious ensemble arrangement with the voices of the ensemble echoing the words sung by the choir. Other soloists and small groups add variety to a program that provides musical highlights from our concerts of past holiday seasons.
The Chorale is a 50 member choir performing a range of music from classical standards, romantic ballads and show tunes to jazz, blues, folk and ethnic music. Our mission is to provide the best in vocal entertainment as well as creating an environment for educational growth and therapeutic services for the senior community.
Enjoy our holiday songs in The Old Church, a lovely 1883 Carpenter-Gothic church building. Most of the windows are leaded, stained or frosted glass works by Povey Bros. of Portland. Particularly noteworthy is the Templeton window on Clay Street, a rendering of the Matthew 6:28 verse, "Consider the Lilies."
The Old Church's interior abounds in detail. In the Entry, for example, is a characteristic local touch; two built-in umbrella racks (capacity 92) with drains. From the Entry one passes directly into the Auditorium. Cast iron Corinthian columns support a vaulted ceiling with plaster ribs painted the color of stone. The gentle curve of the hand-carved fir pews, broken by aisles sloping to the stage and the spacing of the columns, gives and intimacy to the hall that belies its 350-person capacity.
Original fittings abound: the ornate floor heating grills, door hinges and handles, elaborate plaster window moldings. The focal point of the Auditorium, however, is the Hook & Hastings tracker action pipe organ given to the church at its founding by the Ladd family.
The Old Church is at the corner of SW 11th and Clay. A public parking lot entrance is on 10th Street.
