Rajasthan boasts a rich and vibrant village tradition in which musicians perform for themselves as well as for their aristocratic patrons. These songs were mostly composed by women but performed by men and cover a wide range of topics: life and death, love and loss, Sufi mysticism, and the greatness of nature (especially camels!). This is dancing music characterised by powerful singing and musicianship, and a spectacular traditional performance of vibrant turbans and shawls.
