Cutting Ball Academy: Viewpoints
August 2 - 12, 2010. Monday - Thursday, 6:30pm - 8:30pm.
Cost: $225 $50 due on registration to guarantee a place in the class; $175 due by check on or before August 1.
This class will be an intensive course in the building blocks of the 9 Viewpoints training method. The Viewpoints, first created by Mary Overlie and adapted to the theater by Anne Bogart, Tina Landau and the SITI Company is a comprehensive, post-modern physical and vocal exploration into the uses of Time and Space as a means to create theatrical moments on stage. Through varied and challenging physical and vocal exercises, we will be learning and acquiring the basic building blocks of creating gripping, ensemble generated compositions. We will be working with music, oral and visual dramaturgical material and text to slowly navigate through the nine fascets of the Viewpoints. This is an active class and students should expect to move and be bold in their enthusiasm within this physically challenging setting. Students will not need to be trained singers, but speaking text is also an integral part of this class. Most importantly, students should have the desire to learn in an ensemble-based environment.
