Songwriters' Conversations: a musical conversation
"Songwriters' Conversations" features musician Peter Spencer in intimate, wide-ranging discussions with some of the Northwest's finest songwriters. These one-on-one encounters - part interview, part performance - get to the heart of the creative process while at the same time offering superb entertainment.
Peter Spencer lives on Bainbridge Island, where he teaches guitar, voice, and songwriting at the Island Music Center and the Dusty Strings Music School in Seattle. His 40-year career includes co-founding the Fast Folk Songwriters cooperative in Greenwich Village, New York, where he worked with artists like Suzanne Vega, John Gorka, Lucy Kaplanski, Cliff Eberhardt, and Jack Hardy. His book World Beat: A Listener's Guide to Contemporary World Music on CD was published by the Chicago Review Press in 1992.
Peter's album releases include New Hope and Wise Virgins (2000); Nobody's Daddy (2004); Handsignal (2005); Gathering Light: Christmas Music for Solo Guitar (2006); The Blues Concert (2007); and From the Island (2009). He has been called a "guitar wizard" by Seattle's Victory Music News and "a gifted lyricist with a sharp eye" by the New Jersey Star-Ledger. He tours regularly in the Northeast and throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Peter's guest this month on "Songwriters' Conversations" will be Matt Price. His albums include "Serves You Right" and "Cure for the Blues." Christine Lavin called "Cure for the Blues" the best new CD of 2007.
