Escoffier: Master of the Kitchen - Brunch, performance and dessert
Metropolitan Community Colleges explores on of the world's first celebrity chefs, Georges Auguste Escoffier, with this theatre-plus-brunch event!

Born in 1846, French chef Georges Auguste Escoffier was one of the first celebrity chefs. Without his innovations, creations and dedication there would be no Gordon Ramsay or Mario Batali stars. The performance delves into the gossip and backstory of the restaurants, recipes and private lives of famous people in Escoffier's Europe.

Marty Skomal, arts administrator and director of programs with the Nebraska Arts Council, brings Escoffier to life on the stage in this clever and funny 45-minute presentation.

Faculty, students, and staff at the Institute for the Culinary Arts will be demonstrating different techniques and dishes based on Escoffier's philosophies. The experience will not only be delicious, but educational as well.

The event begins at 10:30 a.m., and the Escoffier performance will start at noon followed by dessert and coffee at 12:50 p.m.  Doors open at 10:00 a.m.

The production is created by the students, faculty and staff of MCC's Institute for the Culinary Arts and the theatre department. The production is directed and adapted by Barbee Davis.

About Georgees August Escoffier:
Georges Auguste Escoffier (1846  1935) was a French chef, restaurateur and culinary writer who popularized and updated traditional French cooking methods. He is a legendary figure among chefs and gourmets, and was one of the most important leaders in the development of modern French cuisine. Alongside the recipes he recorded and invented, he elevated his profession by introducing organized discipline to his kitchens. Escoffier was France's preeminent chef in the early part of the 20th century, and he published Le Guide Culinaire, which is still used, both in the form of a cookbook and a textbook on cooking. Known as the "king of chefs and chef of kings," Escoffier's recipes, techniques and approaches to kitchen management remain highly influential today.

About Marty Skomal:
Marty Skomal plays Escoffier in "Escoffier: Master of the Kitchen." Skomal is a graduate of the Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University. A native of Omaha, he has been an arts administrator with the Nebraska Arts Council for 25 years, as director of programs for the last 10. Previously, he was director of theatre at the Jewish Community Center and production manager at Chanticleer Theatre, and he has performed with many local and regional theatres including the Nebraska Theatre Caravan. He holds a Master in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
