Not Release Notes, But Something Special!

I know it's been a while since we posted any new release notes, but that's because we've been toiling away for the last six months on a massive new release!  Included are many features and tools that have been requested by event producers and ticket buyers using Brown Paper Tickets, probably even those changes that you yourself have asked for. We've been listening! These updates are designed to make your life easier, while ultimately helping you sell more tickets.

Producer Tools

Customer profiles
Sara, a ticket buyer in California, asked this of us: "Can I have my own page on" Well Sara, you're in luck. We've now created profile pages for customers. People who love to interact with other people via the Internet can post comments about events, list the events they're attending, and keep an impressive history of all the events they've been to. Now Sara will know exactly what it is she's attending, attended, and wants to attend, all the while shouting it out from the rooftops to everyone she knows.

Improved producer profiles
You taught yourself Photoshop, designed your own poster, and are super proud of it. If only your producer page could reflect this work. It can. And you don't have to teach yourself HTML to do it. Match colors, logos, backgrounds, posters, your own website, or whatever you'd like. In the event you already know HTML or CSS, the sky's the limit for what you can do to your producer page. Want more? Here ya go: add your blog, calendar views, Twitter feed, video, comments and maps.

Enhanced event pages
Someone new in town wants to go to a neighborhood venue to see some live music. By going to a producer page, they can see where the venue is on a map, what music is live tonight, and click on the embedded video to watch clips of the performers. If they're still not convinced, they can take a look at the public guest list to see what the crowd will be like, check out what people are saying about the show on a live Twitter feed, and read comments by other ticket holders, all without leaving a single page.

Streamlined event creation process
An intern sits at their crammed and cramped desk in the corner of the room in the back next to the bathroom. The boss sends and email: Post this event now!  Looks like an intern won't be fetching the dry cleaning anytime soon. With the streamlined process for posting events all contained on one page, we have simplified creating an event all the while adding more features AND making it faster.

Mobile ticketing
A fan is stuck in New Jersey and can't make it into Manhattan for the show tonight. Why waste the ticket? With our new "Transfer-to-a-Friend" technology, the ticket holder can now call a friend and transfer the ticket to the them via text. Just like that, their friend can take their place. No need to ask your box office staff to write down names or keep track of the extra tickets! As well, we've created a mobile version of our website where people can buy tickets, view event pages and find local events. Soon we will even have iPhone and Droid apps that turn your phones into ticket scanners.

A group of friends are going to an event together. It's reserved seating, so one person needs to buy a block of tickets. Everyone will be arriving at the venue at different times. With our new "Transfer-to-a-Friend" technology, the ticket buyer can transfer everyone's ticket to the them via text. Gone will be the days of waiting outside for your group to arrive, or making the box office staff hold stray tickets under different people's names. Oh no! One of the group gets stuck at work. With a quick text, they can send their ticket to another friend, who can easily get into the venue and sit with the rest of the group. along with this new feature, we've created a mobile version of our website where people can buy tickets, view event pages and find local events. Soon we will even have iPhone and Droid apps that turn your phones into ticket scanners.

Marketing & Sales Tools

Easier-to-find events
With numerous choices to pick from on any given night, ticket buyers can easily feel lost in a sea of decisions. Not anymore. Our new homepage features events based on location, category and date. This makes it easier for your event to be presented to a potential attendee. Placing your events in multiple categories and creating your own keywords will better your chances exponentially to be seen.

New marketing reports
As an event producer, a challenge lies in knowing how your attendees found out about your event. Was it the ad you placed? The posters you put up? The media attention you got? Maybe it was the promotional tickets you gave away, or the last-minute discount tickets. What days do people buy tickets? What times? Where from? So many questions. We can answer them for you. In simple, easy to read graphs. (Graphs!). These new reports  can help you catch patterns and better plan to increase advance ticket sales in the future.

Social media integration
You're busy, and you just created an event page on Brown Paper Tickets. Why should you have to create a whole new event page on Facebook? Now you don't have to. Create and post a Facebook event with one simple click, and once your event has been approved, any future changes you make to your Brown Paper Tickets event will automatically update in both places. We've also added some tools for ticket buyers  they can now share information directly to their calendar of choice, and share your event easier with friends on a variety of social networks. Plus, you can add Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo links directly to your event page, encouraging even more sharing in your community.

Financial Tools

Price change
No one likes to be held back or limited in their options. In an attempt to not do that, we've changed our pricing. The fee will now be $0.99 plus 3.5% of the ticket price, which is quite low. With the new pricing, anyone can post tickets with prices over $100 without having to set-up a credit card processing accounts. We've also added new ways to get your funds before the event takes place.

New payment options
You now have more flexibility in ways you can get paid and the types of payments you can accept. In addition to Brown Paper Tickets' own credit card processing or your merchant account, you may also use a number of simple and popular credit card processing solutions. These options include PayPal Basic, Google Checkout and Amazon Payments, all of which allow you to receive money directly into your bank account. We've also added over 16 additional currency options, allowing you to host events virtually anywhere in the world. Using your own bank account? We give you back 2.5%. Who else does that?

Improved ticket sales tracking
Bookkeepers are great. We love bookkeepers. And now, bookkeepers will love us. We can track each and every sale, noting every move made an account. Will-call lists now show refunds, tickets bought in groups, and our brand-new mobile delivery options  all designed to make things easier on your box office staff. You can see account journals for each event, view transactions on your account as a whole, and see at a quick glance the pending balance on your account.

Last-minute discount tickets
Here's a match made in heaven: the person who wants to go out, but is short on cash; and the event producer who wants to fill space. We now feature last-minute discount tickets where producers can offer these tickets, and ticket buyers can snatch them up. Anyone can sign up to get a daily or weekly newsletter featuring discounted events in their area. Love.
