Slow Food Seattle Spring Farm Tour & Cheese-Tasting at Kurtwood Farms
Join Slow Food Seattle for a casual afternoon tour of Kurtwood Farms on Vashon Island and see firsthand where all of Kurt Timmermeister's farmstead cheese is created along with an inside look at what it takes to run a small-farm. At the end of the tour, we'll gather together for a guided cheese-tasting from Kurt with some simple accompaniments and some great Washington wine. Cheese will be available for purchase to take home with you too.

Tickets:
Slow Food members $35/person (Members can email us for the promo code, also sent out via our newsletter)
Non-members $40/person

Plan to make a day on Vashon and take in the gorgeous views. Arrive early for an island brunch, or take some delicious cheese out for a picnic after the tour!

We suggest you dress casual and wear boots or suitable shoes for walking around the farm. Much of the day, if not all, will be outside - layers, rain gear, sunscreen, are a good bet. You may also want to bring along a picnic blanket. The event will go on rain or shine.

Carpooling is suggested due to ferry travel and limited parking at the farm. You can find the ferry schedule here (remember to check the SUNDAY schedule).

Timmermeister's recent book - Growing a Farmer, How I Learned to Live Off The Land - chronicles his journey from chef and city dweller, Kurt Timmermeister to farmer and cheesemaker on Vashon Island. Told in Timmermeister's plainspoken voice, Growing a Farmer details with honesty the initial stumbles and subsequent realities he had to face in his quest to establish a profitable farm for himself. Personal yet practical, Growing a Farmer includes the specifics of making cheese, raising cows, and slaughtering pigs, and it will recast entirely the way we think about our relationship to the food we consume.

There will not be any copies of the book for sale the day we are there, but Kurt will happily sign yours if you bring it along. www.kurtwoodfarms.com
