Atwater-Donnelly and The Evie Ladin Band at Lily Pads
We couldn't come up with a better pairing than this. Local favorites Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly and-- from Berkeley,CA--the Evie Ladin Band.

The neo-trad kinetic-folk of the Evie Ladin Band is a mingling of the deep Appalachian sound of clawhammer banjo, guitar, bass and percussive dance, with contemporary storytelling and original, conversational interplay among the band members. Some of their adventurousness comes from early hip hop in the high school cafeteria, some from Evies early attraction to, and study of, the African roots in Appalachian music and dance. She created an African Studies In Dance major at Brown University, then studied dance in Eastern Nigeria on a Fulbright Fellowship. While myriad world and contemporary music influences permeate the bands choices, they never reach too far, remaining seamless and true to the stories they tell.

The ELBs third record, JUMP THE FIRE shows the bands evolution into a tight trio. Keith Terry (bass, Body Music, percussion, vocals), trained as a jazz drummer and most known for contemporary Body Music, goes after tonal percussion on bass, cajon, toys, with clever lines and unusual grooves. He and Evie met on the dance floor, and live a double life between the Folk/Americana circuit and the International Body Music scene they helped create  elements beautifully integrated into their live show. Erik Pearson (guitar, bass, banjo, vocals) fell in love with old-time music studying composition at Oberlin, and he contributes chordal containment and the ultimate support. Three-part harmony carries the music into the heart.

Our friends Aubrey Atwater and Elwood Donnelly, present delightful programs of traditional American and Celtic folk songs, a capella pieces, old-time gospel songs, dance tunes, and original works. Elwood and Aubrey blend gorgeous and unusual harmonies and play guitar, Appalachian mountain dulcimer, mandolin, tin whistle, harmonica, banjo, bones, spoons, limberjacks, and other surprises including Appalachian clog dancing, French Canadian footwork, and Tap.

Atwater~Donnelly have won Motif Magazine's Music Awards in the following categories: "Best Local Folk Act" award in 2006, three awards in 2007: "Best Folk Act" for the Atwater~Donnelly Band, "Album of the Year" for "The Halfway Ground, and "Best Female Vocalist" for Aubrey Atwater, which Aubrey won again in 2009. Atwater~Donnelly also won Best Folk Act for 2010, Folk Act of the Year for 2011, Americana Album of the Year for Each Other's Story for 2012, and Best Folk Act for 2014.

In addition to thirteen recordings, Aubrey has written three books of poetry and a songbook and Elwood has written a songbook of The Carter Family, for mountain dulcimer, a book of recipes and musings, and has created a songbook for "The Halfway Ground" and for "The Weaver's Bonny." The duo is part of more than fifteen compilation CDs and has appeared on numerous recordings of other musicians.

This will be a very unique and wondrous night of music and dance. We hope to see you there!
