Ancora presents "I Will Arise" Songs of the British Isles
From earthy to ethereal, Ancora celebrates the music of the British Isles in their first presentation under new Artistic Director Aimee Mell. Enjoy the music of Holst, Vaughan Williams, Stanford, Daley, Szymko, Whitacre and more. The program presents traditional renditions of "waulking" songs, ballads, reels, and favorites such as Scarborough Fair, as well as more contemporary settings of texts by St. Patrick, W.B. Yeats and James Joyce.

About Ancora:

Established in 2004, Seattle-based women's choir Ancora performs music both adventurous and traditional, highlighting the beauty and mystique of the female voice. With two recordings available, Ancora has an active concert season, performing throughout the Seattle region with a minimum of two full concerts per year. Other performances have included Northwest Folklife, the Leavenworth tree lighting, and the popular Figgy Pudding caroling competition, which the choir has won twice. Auditions are held twice a year.

About Aimee Mell, Artistic Director:

Aimee Mell brings a deep and varied background to her position as Artistic Director of Ancora. In addition to diverse musical interests ranging from world music traditions to contemporary works, she has a passion for connecting people, the arts, and ideas through music. She has been an active advocate for the arts and education, serving on the Washington State American Choral Directors Association since 2012. Past affiliations have included serving as board member for the Greater Seattle Choral Consortium and Teaching Artist with Seattle Symphony, as well as extensive volunteering with The Creative Advantage, Tacoma Arts Commission, Washington State Arts Alliance and Seattle Opera.

About Justin Hansen, Accompanist:

Justin Hansen is a freelance composer and musician. He received his Bachelor's of Science in Music from Dixie State University, and during his time there, he performed locally and internationally as a concert pianist. Afterwards, he stayed on for one year to teach private piano and music theory at Dixie State under the mentorship of Dr. Shannon B. Roberts and Dr. Glenn Webb.
