Where do I start? Theres so much! It doesnt fit! Do you recognize these sentiments? Thumbnails can help! Theyre a great way to play on paper with the scene before you begin a sketch. Well work on simplification, composition, value, color and, most importantly, how to focus on the story you want to tell with your drawing.
Learning goals:
Learn to use thumbnails to: * Establish your viewpoint * Determine your focus * Simplify the scene * Emphasize whats important to you * Use value and color effectively * Plan a larger sketch.
Supply list:
Required:
* One soft graphite pencil (2B or 3B) * Pen of your choice with waterproof ink. I recommend a line width of 0.3 or wider. I usually use 0.5. (Finer points call for more detail. We're concentrating on less detail.) * Your favorite sketchbook for our final sketch. (I like Stillman and Birn Beta sketchbooks. Their new square format allows for flexible formats.) Optional: * Portable watercolor set * Portable stool * If using watercolor, water, paper towels, brushes

She also studied sumi-e painting in Tokyo. Being an urban sketcher has given her the gumption to come out of the closet, pull out her sketchbook and start sketching just about anywhere.
