MetroBall is the primary fundraising source for GDMAF, a North Texas-based 501c3 organization founded in 1996 with a mission to provide emergency nancial assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS and to those who are unable to receive social services assistance. David Hearn is the Founder and Treasurer of GDMAF and he has been honored with the following awards recognizing his volunteer work and community service: JCPenneys James Cash Penney Award, 1996; KRLDs Citizen of the Week, 1996; C.U.R.E.s Open Heart Award, 2009; Dallas Bears Randy Franklin I Care Community Service Award, 2011; Health Services of North Texas Hearts and Heroes Spirit Award, 2012; Miss Gay Texas State Pageant Systems Around the World Midnite Memorial Legends Award, 2015; Leather Knights John Leaphart Memorial Award for Community Service, 2015; Dallas Voice Readers Voice LGBT Role Model Award, 2016; AIDS Arms Heart and Hands Award, 2016; and POZ Magazines POZ 100, 2016.
