CANTICO SINGERS - 40's Christmas World War II Remembrance
Indisputably, World War II and the immediate post-war years represented something of a golden age for Christmas music, with the 1940s and 1950s accounting for nearly two thirds of ASCAPs most popular songs. Bing Crosby's 1942 version of "White Christmas", according to the Guinness Book of World Records, is the best-selling single in history. In a departure from traditional carols, the lyrics are secular yet fundamentally nostalgic, which was presumably a source of comfort to a nation in the midst of a horrible war.

Join us on December 14th at 3:00 pm or 7:30 pm
for this and many other great Christmas classics of this era in honor
of the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Performing a variety of songs from classics such as "White Christmas" by Irving Berlin, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" made famous by Judy Garland in the 1944 film "Meet Me in St. Louis" and the upbeat, swing/jazz song "What Will Santa Claus Say?" by Louis Prima, to contemporary pieces like "The Little Drummer Boy" as sung by Pentatonix and "Prepare The Way" by The Real Group, the whole family will find something to enjoy. For the sophisticated choral music lover you'll enjoy the beautiful "Cradle Hymn" by Kim Andrew Arnesen, and "The Little Road To Bethlehem" by Margaret Rose and Michael Head, just to name a few!

Come join us for an evening of incredible music and fun. You're sure to hear something familiar and moving at this wonderful concert. See you there!

Cántico Singers brings their beautiful choral sounds back for another season. Now in its 11th year, Cántico Singers combines an array of select local talent with an eclectic mix of programming. While rooted in the classical tradition, this 25-voice vocal ensemble performs a wide-ranging repertoire including classical, jazz, Broadway, and acoustic folk rock. We mix the familiar with the unusual, the popular with the ancient, the profound with light-hearted into a fast-paced concert for choral fan and newcomer alike.

Held at the First Unitarian Church Eliot Chapel in downtown Portland, with its historic setting, and classic architecture, this venue provides a wonderfully intimate space for listening to live choral singers. Located a few blocks west of the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, close to many of Portland's great restaurants and ample parking, perfect for a date night.
