Polina Shepherd (United Kingdom): Workshop + Concert
Dear friends! Join us for a vocal/instrumental workshop followed by a performance of the star of new klezmer straight from London, in Montreal for one gig only!

Always stunning in her musicianship, always surprisingly and refreshingly new, this time Polina will lead a vocal Yiddish song workshop (instruments are invited to join and accompany), which will be followed by a performance of her new neo-klezmer material. She will be joined on stage by Montreal's own Zilien Biret and Yoni Kaston. Bring your voice and your instrument and join one of the world's leading klezmer performers as she blends tradition and innovation in the most unique way. Participants in the workshop will have the opportunity to be part and parcel of the main-stage performance!

POLINA SHEPHERD works as an educator, leading choral workshops internationally. Her specially developed choral teaching methods are based on East European sound, ornamentation, modal
experimentation with attention to stylistic detail, history and context. For Jewish music-based choral workshops, she teaches Hassidic nigunim and Yiddish songs.

ZILIEN BIRET is a clarinetist, flutist, singer, teacher, and composer from Reunion Island. He has worked with Steve Weintraub and Zev Feldman accompanying Yiddish dance at various festivals including Klezkanada, Ashkenaz festival, Boston Jewish Music festival, Montréal Jewish festival, Yiddish New York and Yiddish Summer Weimar. He is the clarinetist of the Zev Feldman trio withm Christina Crowder and Zev Feldman.

YONI KASTON is a Montreal based multi-instrumentalist, performing primarily with accordion, clarinet and piano.  His musical education has come from a vastly diverse set of teachers and genres  having studied classical piano and harpsichord at McGill University, he has since refocused on traditional and art music from around the world, finding his own voice and range of expression within the various styles. Yoni has recently been emerging as one of the very active musicians in the Montreal Jewish and World music scenes, learning from a vast array of masters, performing and collaborating with musicians from around the world.
