Manran
Manran, Scots Gaelic for 'tuneful sound,' have in just a couple years rocketed to the top of the Scottish music scene with their powerful combination of Gaelic/English songs and titanic tunesets, ranging from the colossal to the tender, driven by accordion, fiddle, flute, backed by drums and bass, and being the only band to feature both Highland and uilleann pipers in one lineup, creating a sound like none other; the fresh unstoppable sound of Gaelic Scotland. Manran's dazzling self-titled debut CD was awarded 'Album of the Year' at the 2011 Scots Trad Music Awards which catapulted Manran to headlining major festivals throughout the UK and Europe, serving as house band for BBC Alba's Hogmanay, a special performance at the 2012 London Olympics and being hailed by Celtic Connections' Donald Shaw as 'Manran are an exceptionally talented bunch of young guys that are taking the music world by storm.' Of their appearance at the Cambridge Folk Festival, Scotland's Herald raved, 'Highland outfit Manran made their English debut with barnstorming sets of both main stages, leavening their stomp-along power with a wealth of distinctive flourishes, including English and Gaelic songs, both original and traditional, twinned Highland and uilleann pipes and arrangements that match multi-layered richness with vivid definition.' Having just released their second album, 'The Test,' Manran are now poised to conquer America. Don't miss them. For more info, visit www.manran.co.uk.
