Forging Distinction
Forging Distinction is a quadruple bill showcase on June 23th at Triskelion Arts featuring choreography by Allison Armfield, Billy Blanken, Alden Henderson and Kirsten Reynolds. This self-produced performance will feature new and previously presented works that range from contemporary pointe work to postmodern inspired contemporary choreography. The work of four emerging choreographers, the program will showcase freelance ballet and contemporary dance artists in a renowned New York City professional dance venue.

The performance will begin at 7:00 PM and will run approximately one hour. Tickets purchased online may be retrieved from Will Call beginning at 6:00. Audience members may also purchase tickets at the door for $20 with cash or Venmo.

About the Choreographers:

Allison Armfield is the Artistic Director of Golden Hour Dance. She is also a dance photographer. Armfield's choreography has been presented at Access Theater as part of CBG Dance Fall Festival, Emotions Physical Theatre's "Evening of Contemporary Dance", and at Green Space in Queens as part of their Fertile Ground series. "of the mind made up", a solo crafted by Armfield for dancer Ally Elliott and originally presented at Texas Christian University's capstone concert series Continuum, was presented once more at American College Dance Association's South-Central Conference in March 2018 as the guest artist work representing TCU's dance department.

Billy Blanken is the Artistic Director of Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre and has premiered his choreography at many of New York's most recognized showcases. Blanken began his professional career as a principal with Amy Marshall Dance before joining Les Ballets Grandiva; his freelance credits include principal guest artist with Brooklyn Ballet, Dances Patrelle, CoDa21 of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Catherine Gallant Dance, Atlantic City Ballet and numerous others. Blanken is original collaborator, writer, producer, choreographer and performer of "the intimacies project" with dancer Jordan Marinov, filmmaker Bill Hayward and late musician/playwright Anna Elman. In his choreography, Blanken strives to create classical works with a uniquely modern aesthetic while following his interest in the ways we relate to our bodies, selves and the rituals of Performance.

Alden Henderson is a freelance dancer in New York City who dances with Bryce Dance Company, SHIFT Dance and VISIONS: Contemporary Ballet. As a choreographer, he delves into the relationship between dancers, audience and space with nuance and specificity. His work, "Duet 1 en pointe," explores the similitude of daily life that is the human condition of adulthood. Originally composed as a solo, "Duet 1" intends to journey into how the aforementioned condition is affected by interactions with other people as they navigate their own life rituals.

Kirsten Reynolds is a freelance dancer in New York City working with Nuo Spiritual Dance Company, Rachel Thorne Germond Performance Collage and Golden Hour Dance. In her choreography and dancing, Reynolds values intricacy and intellect. The detail-oriented nature of her choreography fosters intent and self-awareness in her work that permeates the atmosphere radiating from her creations. Reynolds is committed to divining and sifting through the imperceptible cracks in the boundaries of humanity's subjective understanding.
