MAITA + Cave Clove @ the Library at Growler's
Portland indie-rock songstress, MAITA's two most recent single releases in 2018 display opposing sides of her carefully crafted coin, from Japanese Waitress (featured on Tender Loving Empires Friends of Friends compilation), comprised of a "sobering melody" and "deeply personal storytelling" that "calls both Sufjan Stevens and Joni Mitchell to mind (NPR)", to 'Kid Anymore', a "perfect two-minute pop-rock song (Vortex)" recently featured on Vortex Music Magazine's limited pressing vinyl compilation and the 2018 Picklefest vinyl compilation.

MAITA weaves these two sides together--quiet contemplation and unfettered catharsis--with her deliberate lyricism and wistful vocals. Her debut full length was mixed by John Askew (Neko Case, The Dodos) and mastered by JJ Golden (Ty Segall, Laura Gibson).

Following a month long tour of Europe in the spring of 2018, MAITA returned to the states to perform at Treefort in Boise, Wildwood Music Festival in Willamina, Oregon, and Modest Music Festival in Moscow, Idaho. She continues to make a name for herself in Portland, opening for the likes of Laura Gibson, Luke Temple, Eric Bachmann, Deep Dark Woods, and Gregory and the Hawk, and is slated to return to Treefort this spring, as well as being a showcasing artist at Bottom of the Hill San Francisco for Noise Pop.

Cave Clove:

An ambitious followup to Cave Cloves eponymous 2016 full-length studio album, Dollars to Tokens (slated for release 5.3.19) demonstrates a potent formula for why vocalist/songwriter Katie Colver and her band are on a fast track emerging as one of the Bay Areas most compelling new acts. Dollars to Tokens presents five unflinching chronicles of Colvers own emotional yet often existential triumphs and struggles. Set to psych-rock infused production brimming with electrifying guitars and a West Coast Americana songwriting sensibility, Colver explores what it means to follow ones most fervent dreams, while addressing all of the risks and sacrifices that such a journey entails. Set aside some time to delve into these anthemic stunners while Colver and Cave Clove dive to the depths of her idiosyncratic psyche.
