DARK HORSE CONSORT TOWER MUSIC OF THE STADTPFEIFER
Inspired by the Roman bronze horse statues in St. Marks Basilica, the aptly named Dark Horse Consort is dedicated to unearthing the majestic late Renaissance and early Baroque repertoire for brass instruments. German Municipal Bands, or Stadtpfeifer, from this part of musical history played for major civic events and kept the hours performing in the tower in the city center. This program features the works of composers Samuel Scheidt, Andreas Hammerschmidt and Johann Rosenmüller, played on cornetti, period trombones, recorders, harpsichord and organ. This program is co-presented with Bach Society of Houston.
