Mingyur Rinpoche

Welcome email link with logistical  details

Meditation enables us to discover a lasting contentment that is not subject to the fluctuating conditions of our lives, and to nurture the qualities of wisdom and compassion that naturally manifest from awareness itself. The Joy of Living is a secular path of meditation practice that nurtures basic functions of the mind, such as mindful awareness and the movements toward happiness and away from suffering. In working with these qualities of mind, we gradually transform our relationship to present-moment experience, learning to approach our thoughts, feelings, and sensory experiences with unconditional warmth and acceptance.

This workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn this accessible approach to meditation from Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche. Rinpoche will share practical advice on using meditation to cultivate awareness, compassion, and wisdom, sharing insights from his own experience and illuminating key points on meditation practice. He will also introduce new meditations, including breathing practices and physical exercises, that he himself practiced during his extended retreat.  Each day will include teachings from Mingyur Rinpoche and short periods of guided meditation and discussion with Senior Tergar Instructor Tim Olmsted. This workshop is suitable for both novice and experienced meditators.

If you meet the qualifications and would like to also attend Exploring the Nature of Mind: Heart Advice on the Path of Awakening with Mingyur Rinpoche on Friday, June 17th, a 3-day Package Rate has been made available with ticket purchases below. You do not need to purchase a separate ticket for the Friday night event, if you purchase the 3-Day Package Rate.

About Mingyur Rinpoche

Most uniquely, Rinpoches teachings weave together his own personal experiences with modern scientific research, relating both to the practice of meditation.

Mingyur Rinpoche teaches throughout the world, with centers on five continents. His candid, often humorous accounts of his own personal difficulties have endeared him to thousands of students around the world. His best-selling book, The Joy of Living: Unlocking the Secret and Science of Happiness, debuted on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into over twenty languages.

Rinpoche's most recent books are Turning Confusion into Clarity: A Guide to the Foundation Practices of Tibetan Buddhism, Joyful Wisdom: Embracing Change and Finding Freedom, and an illustrated childrens book entitled Ziji: The Puppy that Learned to Meditate.

In early June, 2011, Mingyur Rinpoche left his monastery in Bodhgaya, India to begin a period of extended solitary retreat. In November of 2015 Mingyur Rinpoche returned after four years of solitary retreat. He is currently teaching his monastic and western students living around the world.
