Charles Eldredge presents on "Eloquent Objects"
The new year marks the 100th anniversary of the Taos Society of Artists' founding, providing an opportune moment to reconsider that pioneering Southwestern art association, as well as other creative centers that flourished in New Mexico in the early 20th century. Often it is the colorful landscape and its indigenous population that captured the artists' and the public's imagination. But still-life specialists also found inspiration in the inanimate things of the regionPueblo pottery, tribal artifacts, Hispanic devotional figuresobjects that with equal eloquence evoked the "land of enchantment," The work of New Mexico's early still-life painters is featured in the "Eloquent Objects" exhibition and in this lecture.
