PROGRAM
Sibelius - The Oceanides
Sarah Kirkland Snider - Three Songs from Unremembered
Caroline Shaw - Violin Concerto (ISO Commission)
Brahms - Variations on a Theme by Haydn

In 2013, at age 30, Caroline Shaw became the youngest composer ever to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Sarah Kirkland Snider writes music of direct expression and vivid narrative that has been hailed as "rapturous" (The New York Times) and "strikingly beautiful" (Time Out New York).  Soprano Shara Worden, who studied operatic voice and classical composition, has lent her voice to various artists like David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, The Decemberists and Bon Iver. Shaw and Worden join the ISO as soloists in performing celebrated works from the contemporary classical genre, coupled with standards from the orchestral repertoire that inspired these young artists along their journeys to become composers and performers.

"[;;Shaw];; has discovered a lode of the rarest commodity in contemporary music: joy."
--New York Magazine
