Launched in 1993, In Order To Survive is one of master musician William Parker's eternal flagship groups. Featuring fellow masters: pianist Cooper-Moore, alto saxophonist Rob Brown, and (since 2012) drummer Hamid Drake, with occasional brass/reeds/voice expansion as required for the moment, In Order To Survive is one of the great jazz groups in the history of the music.
In July 2017 the group had a luminous two-night engagement at ShapeShifter Lab, celebrating the release of their then-brand-new album Meditation/Resurrection by performing all-new material. It was recorded, and their Now-brand-new double-album, Live/Shapeshifter presents that astonishing work. Well beyond expressing the obvious, the album title states the shamanistic nature of the work at hand. In Order To Survive gets into the mystic from the ground up.
This performance will be One long set / extended illumination.
