"U-PHORIA - Verena McBee sings the music of Cecil McBee - CD Release Event"
Tonight jazz vocalist Verena McBee's sextet is going to celebrate their long awaited album 'U-PHORIA' with all music by jazz bassist & GRAMMY award winner Cecil McBee.
The bassist & composer sees his new work 'U-PHORIA' debuted in the voice of Verena McBee and her quintet with himself as conductor and director.
U-Phoria's nine tracks inhabit a wide landscape of modern tonal palettes, lyrical whimsy and anticipated delights. Verena's lyrics to these compositions give twists and turns and a real lift to one's emotions.
This joy echoed by all those creating is abundant throughout the recording.

Verena McBee was born and raised in Northern Germany. At age 7 she started taking piano lessons for over 15 years and added the flute at age 14.
Between 1993-97 she studied classical music for educational purposes in her hometown Osnabrueck, which included vocal studies.
With her acceptance at "Schule Fuer Schauspiel" in Hamburg/Germany in 1997 she changed to acting and appeared in the follwing years in Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Wuerzburg, Vienna, Brussles & Prisdina.
In 2007 she moved to NYC and expanded her musical variety by studying jazz vocals.
Since 2009 Verena has performed with the likes of George Cables, Victor Lewis, Cecil McBee, David Kikoski, Billy Hart, Mark Soskin and John DiMartino.

"A surprise happening was the appearance of Cecil McBee's wife Verena. Her voice is lyrical and expressive. Her artistic impulse is right."
(John Paul Keeler, Hudson Catskill Newspapers, NY)

"Verena McBee is a powerful and expressive singer with a wide range."
(Scott Yanow, jazz journalist/historian/author - CD Review "Can't Help It !", 1st album)
