RED ROCK FILM FESTIVAL 2009 ZION FLIX I: OPENING NIGHT SHORTS New short films that take their production all the way to 35mm film. Includes late entry to the Opening Night Dinner Reception (ticket holders may enter the reception at 6:50 pm.) Films include:
- A FILM FROM MY PARISH - 6 FARMS (7m, Ireland)- Family Friendly Dir. by Tony Donoghue In this animated documentary film we meet six Irish farmers who work in harmony with their land,with local resources and with their community. We can learn a lot from traditional farming if we are serious about a sustainabale earth.
- FAR SIGHTED (21m, Brazil, United Kingdom - Family Friendly) Dir. by Elyse Couvillion Lea (8) is too imaginative, sensitive and empathetic to emotionally survive her parent's bitter divorce. After finding a broken home telescope that apparently only she can see through, she finds a way to escape as the distant wonder of the universe are revealed to her.
- THE BAKE SHOP GHOST (17m, U S A) - Family Friendly Dir. by Lorette Bayle In a haunted bake shop, a determined young woman struggles to find the perfect recipe to satisfy a hungry spirit. Based on a best-selling children's book, this film provides enchantment for all ages.
- BLUE BOY (16m, U S A)- Recommended for teens and mature audiences Dir. by Alex Jablonski Seventeen-year-old Kenny lives in a rundown track home with his father, but every morning he rides his bike into the wealthier part of town for his lifeguarding job. Invisible to the moneyed moms and girls who populate the country club Kenny spends his work hours stoned, fantasizing about the women around him. One in particular, Mrs. Jordan, has always caught his eye. After an act of heroism brings them together he finds himself alone with her and decides to try to act on his daydreams.
- FREE LUNCH (35m, U S A)- Recommended for mature audiences Dir. by Rick Curnutt Walter Tanner Jr. is done with handouts, hes done with his privileged past, and hes done with having to answer to people. Realizing the value of hard work, Walter sets off on the road to the American dream...in a lunch truck. Together, Walter and his friend Casey serve the working people of LA, while Walter struggles with the realities of business and being a fish out of water. Will the struggle prove to be too much?
