Urban Threads Studio (UTS), located in the Fashion Design Center at the beautiful Bridgeport Art Center, is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to teach creative problem solving through textile arts in a nurturing and community-building environment. Each year we design a key project to try to reach between 50 and 100 youths in under-resourced communities to engage in a journey of self-expression through textile art workshops. This art form uses textile fibers to create and construct practical articles of clothing, accessories, or home decoration and at the same time this medium lends itself towards complete artistic expression. All projects involve discipline, imagination, problem solving, self expression, organization and team work.
To support our mission we offer workshop classes, summer and after school programs, as well as textile art events at modest cost. If you would like to participate please go to Workshops to register, talk to your school about bringing textile arts into their after school program, register your child for Summer Camp or celebrate your next occasion with a Textile Art Party. We are governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. The Board oversees planning and directs fundraising efforts. The staff at UTS works closely with the Board to implement strategies that allow us to achieve our organizational goals.
