On November 10th, The Petaluma Woman's Club (PWC) will once again bring to life, the memories of the woman's club as the USO Dance Hall so richly provided back in the 1940s. Swing Music, then, filled the main ballroom, while dancers swooned an swayed to Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy. Veterans will fondly remember how they carried that evening with warmth in their hearts, having something to come back home to.
This USO event, in complete authentic style, will have refreshments of the period; Prize tickets will be available for purchase; the officers lounge will offer a respite for those with stars and bars on their uniforms; dancers can polish their skills with swing dance lessons and buy a chance on winning a ride on the Hueyvets/EMU for 2 memberships Military Helicopter, viewing over the Veterans Day Parade happening the next day in Downtown Petaluma. EMU means Experimental Military Unit.
Entertainment provided by Swing Fever Dance Band. During the band breaks, other entertainment provided by the Liberty School singers, Petaluma Woman's Club member Entertainer, LynAnn King 40's Act, and dance lessons by Bill Gabbert.
There will be drawings for prizes including dinner with a Veteran for four, with a gourmet meal, Sonoma wine, and musical act of entertainment to top off the evening. Another prize includes two tickets to the WWII Museum in New Orleans and tickets for two for a Day at the Rosie Riveter Museum and more.
All net proceeds go to the PWC Restoration Fund to help maintain the building, as it was, when the first USO Swing Dances were held. The Petaluma Womans Clubs is a proud Heritage Building of Petaluma, continuing over 100 years of tradition with event rentals, membership events and activities, located at 518 B Street, Petaluma CA.
