Ellipsis Trio, An Evening of Russian Classics
Ellipsis Trio, one of New England's premier piano trios, plays works by Rachmaninoff, Shostakovich, and Arensky on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at the First Church in Cambridge.
The concert program is Rachmaninoff's Trio élégiaque No. 1 in G minor, Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 2 in E minor, Op. 67, and Arensky's Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 32.
Ellipsis Trio, Amanda Wang, violinist, Patrick Owen, cellist, and Konstantinos Papadakis, pianist, will perform starting at 7:30 p.m. at the First Church in Cambridge, 11 Garden Street, Cambridge, Mass.
Experience these distinct Russian flavors - from the somber lyricism of Arensky and Rachmininoff's late 19th century, lush Romantic style, to Shostakovich's biting sardonic dance of death. Shostakovich's trio (1944), written as a haunting tribute to the memory of his friend Ivan Sollertinsky, reflects the turmoil of a nation ravaged by war, starvation, and the oppressive communist regime.
